Homeopathy is a gentle, effective and safe system of medicine which treats the whole person by stimulating our innate healing mechanisms to restore health.
It is based on the principle of 'Like cures like' which means that a substance which is capable of producing certain symptoms in a healthy individual, (whether physical, emotional or mental), is also capable of curing a sick person who displays similar symptoms.
Our body is one whole organism of various functions and sensations. Like Chinese medicine, homeopathy recognizes that the body has a life energy flow (the Chinese call it 'chi' or 'ki') which, when we are healthy, keeps the operation of the whole organism in a harmonious balanced state. It is this life force, which organizes our bodies to fight infections and recover from illness.
When we fall ill, we experience symptoms – e.g. fever, cough, anxiety, frustration, skin eruptions, discharges etc. In orthodox medicine, these symptoms leading to a medical diagnosis are regarded as the disease itself while in homeopathy symptoms are regarded as merely the expression of the disease – an internal disharmony, a disturbance of the life force. By using Homeopathic medicines, homeopaths aim not just to remove this disturbance but also to restore a healthy balance within the whole person, leading to a greater sense of wellbeing.
