The earlier part of my professional career was as a teacher, trainer, advocate and counsellor, working with adults and young people.
In addition to my practice at Number 42 and in north London, I worked until recently in the psychotherapy department of an NHS teaching hospital. I am a tutor and group conductor on psychodynamic counselling trainings, facilitate reflective practice groups for staff and co-lead a Balint group for GPs. I was a board director of FPC and am actively involved in the Group Analytic Society.
A group-analytic outlook is psychodynamic and keeps in mind all aspects of a client’s life. I am influenced by experience in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) whose emphasis is on patterns of relating. I am familiar with and employ aspects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which tends to concentrate on habits of thinking.
I offer supervision and have a particular interest in supporting teachers, healthcare and social workers, individually and in staff groups.
