Dr Ajay Khandelwal

BA (Oxon) MA, PhD, UKCP Reg., CP-UK Reg.

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist

I am a psychoanalytical psychotherapist and sociologist. I have twenty-five years experience of working with adults experiencing mental health difficulties. I specialise in working with high achieving professionals from artistic, financial, commercial and public sector backgrounds. My PhD research was based on understanding intergenerational family dynamics in shaping life paths.  I am the Clincal Director of a pioneering London psychotherapy service.  As well my training as a psychoanalyst (Guild of Psychotherapists) I have a training as a sociologist (University of Essex).  This allows us to focus on both the individual and the broader social and familial context of any difficulties arising.  I usually suggest we meet for an initial consultation and explore if we can work together.  I do both short term work, and open ended psychotherapy.

I work with adults on a range of issues, including:
Addictions and compulsions
Anxiety
Breakdown
Depression
Career issues
Cultural identity
Family issues
Fertility issues
Loss
Relationship difficulties
Psychosis
Sexuality

COUPLES AND FAMILY WORK

Ajay Khandelwal works with couples and family groups experiencing difficulties. He has a PhD on intergenerational family dynamics and helps the couple to recognise unconscious “family scripts” that play out in the drama of the relationship. Through working on the individual and family system - for instance mapping out wider family patterns to include siblings and across generations - he helps the couple gain new insights to improve the quality of their relationship.  Through a systemic and intuitive approach, he helps the couple review and generate new ‘scripts’ for living together.
